Melting Crushed Gold Ore in a Furnace in Six Easy Steps


  • After reading the steps that follow, note the warnings at the end of the article.
  • Crush the gold-bearing rock to a fine powder.
  • Put the crushed rock and flux in a crucible.
  • Place the crucible in the furnace.
  • Heat the furnace to 1947.52 degrees Fahrenheit, which is the melting point of gold.
  • Take out the crucible. Pour the liquid gold into the mold.
  • Remove the slag from the crucible so that it can be used again.
