History of Relic Prospecting, Virginia Gold, Historical Topo Map Treasure Hunting @ eGoldProspecting

Four good educational videos from eGoldProspecting.com offered here. This is a super source for all kinds of prospecting information, including mining and metal detecting.

You Build a Rocker Box, Make a Manual Rock Crusher, Shaker Table for Gold, Fabricate a Dry Washer, How About Self Built Metal Detector?

This is got to be one of the most popular gold prospecting sites on the Web. This link connects you to ideas and plans for making your own equipment. These folks sell components too. If you are an old pro, you have probably looked at this before. But I figure with price of gold slowly rising again, there may be a lot of people looking for a way to make their own equipment. Equipment tends to be expensive, and I have found so much so that the only way I can prospect is if I do it myself. This is the first place you probably should look. Good luck.

Simple Ball Mill Design Could be Useful in Crushing Quartz and Finding Gold

I thought this was a nice idea about building a ball mill. It might be good with small pieces of quartz that give a signal indicating metal (of any kind). I have found that quartz that sets of a detector, even if not in the gold region, still can have gold. It probably has to do with the density of the quartz and size of the cross section. Anyway, for a 51 second video, it makes one think about the possibilities. I am in the process of building my own version and hope to be done soon.

Finally, My Eureka Moment! I Found My Gold Nugget

Thought I would share with you what I found today. Was prospecting in the Bradshaw Mountains of Arizona and was digging near a rock wall on a club claim. It took 4 years of searching - I've found placer gold, but not a nugget worth talking about. Well, for any of you who were like me, check this out and get the fever. Good luck.

Pocket Gold Pan, Easy to Use, Easy to Carry, Placer Hunting on a Moment's Notice

Here are three photos of a handy pocket pan. This fella had a great idea. What he talks about has happened to me. You are going on a trip and see a waterway that looks promising for placer gold, or you just wonder about it. You didn't prepare to prospect, your goal was to do something else, but you sure wish you could dip a pan in. Here is a mini portable pan that is small enough that you can slip in a pocket and go sample a bit on short notice. Great idea.
